This venue, situated to the left of the harbour, is mainly a low-water mark with the potential for high water fishing in the bay.
Fish the White Mark, named because of the mark painted on the cliffs, two hours either side of low water. The sand is uncovered at dead low water at the Gasworks mark.
SPECIES
Cod, whiting and pouting are caught in winter. Some spotted and small-eyed rays at the White Mark. Lots of dogfish and possibly conger eels. Expect the bass in summer, with plaice, pollack and rockling.
BEST BAITS
In summer use fish, squid, ragworms and crabs, with sandeels for the rays and bass. In winter use rag and lug tipped with fish or squid for whiting, pouting and dogfish. Try lug and rag tipped with squid for cod.
TACKLE
You can use standard beach gear in this area. A single snood rig or paternoster rig should be used for bigger fish, with multi-hook paternoster rigs are best for smaller species, including spotted rays. Good casters get more fishing time on both marks.
GETTING THERE
Leave the M5 at junction 25 to Taunton, taking the A358 to Williton and A39 to Minehead. Take the right at the roundabout onto the sea front, driving along the front and turning right to the harbour. Park in the pay and display spaces along the harbour and promenade. At the end of the prom is a footpath, follow this until it enters the woods and take the right turn to the beach. To your left is the White Mark, while the Gasworks is the area in front of the footpath up to the bay.
