The steep beaches of Greystones are part of a 15-mile stretch which is popular with match anglers. The pier at Greystones also offers shore fishing.

The off-shore sand banks and mussel beds also attract boat anglers launching from the harbour slip way.

SPECIES

Autumn and winter fishing offer pollack, coalfish, codling, dabs, from the south beach which also hosts lots of matches.

Summer fishing can offer dogfish and plaice.

BAIT AND TACKLE

This area generally fishes best after an easterly blow, but the exception is during warm, calm weather when the plaice move as close as 30yds from the shore.

Winter fishing will be best on night tides from November to February.

Worm cocktails are successful for the plaice especially when paired with a spoon as an attractor.

Lug, rag, mussel and crab for the winter species.

Normal beach tackle will be fine although tackle losses can be expected at the boulder beach to the north, especially after an easterly storm.

Small-boat fishing is best in July and August when the banks will produce plaice, rays, tope and smoothhound.
