Marsden is a tiny coastal village situated between South Shields and Sunderland.
Various rock platforms and ledges provide great vantage points to fish from either at high tide or low.
SPECIES
Predominantly a winter cod venue where double figure fish are taken every year. Along with the cod you can expect bass, coalfish and flounders. Usually from September through to February are best but summer fishing can be just as good. Cod, wrasse, coalfish, mackerel and the odd pollack make up the bulk of catches from May through to August.
BAIT AND TACKLE
The best baits will be worm and peeler crab cocktails although mussel is
a much underrated bait. Frozen peelers can often be deadly.
Be very careful during a blow as swells can swamp a lot of the marks. A dying sea after a storm can push the fish into the gullies.
When targeting cod be sure to use beefy tackle and strong line and leader to bully the fish home.
In the summer you can adopt light tackle and even float gear for the wrasse and mackerel.
